“A Christmas Carol” and “The Gifts of Attention” During December at My Old Kentucky Home

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Nov. 2, 2017) – My Old Kentucky Home State Park and its musical cast will perform the Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” on six evenings in December.

Federal Hill will be decorated for Christmas and guests will meet Charles Dickens, who will set the stage for the holiday classic. Visitors will move from room to room and encounter the world of Ebenezer Scrooge, the ghost of Marley and the spirits of Christmas past, present and future.

Hear and see carolers in Victorian hoops skirts and tailcoats, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, garlands, mistletoe, stockings full of toys, the annual gingerbread model of the historic mansion made by our chefs, rooms lit by lantern light, and nutcrackers standing guard over the mansion’s halls.

Guests will also meet the mansion’s original owner, John Rowan, reading “A Christmas Carol” to his children. The tour will end with cider, cookies, and photos with Santa.

“A Christmas Carol” will be presented 6-9 p.m. on these dates: Dec. 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17. Tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for children ages 2-12.

My Old Kentucky Home State Park and Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest will host Wren Smith and “The Gifts of Attention” on the nights of Dec. 8 and 15. Smith, the interpretive programs manager at Bernheim and an artist, creates miniature figures from natural products. She will tell stories about these figures between 6-9 p.m. in the Magnolia Room across from the visitor center. This event is free.

My Old Kentucky Home State Park is also hosting daily “Merry and Bright” tours for the holidays Nov. 26-Dec. 31. (Closed Thanksgiving and Dec. 24-29).
