RICHMOND, Ky. (Nov. 27, 2019) – Find out what Christmas was like in the pioneer days at Fort Boonesborough State Park’s “18th Century Christmas at the Fort” event Dec. 6-7.
The Friday night event will allow guests to see the fort lit with candle lanterns and bonfires. Cabins will be decorated and occupied by living history interpreters presenting 18th century holiday traditions.
There will be interpretations from the following cultures: English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Dutch and German. There will be period music and refreshments in our Blockhouse Tavern, as well as displays of foods of the time period. Children will have the opportunity to make a simple toy, and there will be an opportunity for everyone to visit Father Christmas and have their picture taken.
Other living history interpreters and reenactors will inhabit the fort, and you may get to hear the Christmas Bells and Christmas Guns or warm yourself by an outdoor fire. Belsnickel, the European counterpart of Father Christmas, may be wandering about to present naughty individuals with a switch or lump of coal.
All refreshments, entertainment, crafts and photo are included with admission. $8 for adults; $6 for children 6-12. Children under 6 are free. Open 6-9 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 7.
Parking is in the lower lot on Hwy. 318 across from the campground with trolleys shuttling guests up to the fort. For more information, call 859-527-3131.
