Kentucky State Parks Recognized as ‘Best in Kentucky’ by Kentucky Living Magazine

FRANKFORT, Ky. (August 19, 2022) – Four Kentucky State Parks were recognized as part of this year’s Kentucky Living 2022 Best in Kentucky awards highlighting the best travel destinations and experiences across the commonwealth.

“Kentucky State Parks offer adventure for visitors of all ages and a with a variety of interests” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “From camping, hiking and boating to golfing or weekend getaways – and even a bit of history – we guarantee that if you visit a state park, you will not be disappointed.”

This year’s Best of Kentucky awards featured two Kentucky State Parks that claimed a first place showing in the categories of best long weekend getaway and best camping spot. The state park finalists voted best in Kentucky are: 

“Congratulations to our Kentucky State Parks featured in this year’s Best in Kentucky awards and our partner destinations and attractions in the tourism industry,” said Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Mike Berry. “Kentucky’s tourism industry offers unique travel experiences, and we’re proud of the recognition for their hard work to position Kentucky as a top travel destination.”

Two additional state parks received 2nd place rankings for best destination for public hunting/fishing and historic site.

Barren River Lake at Barren River Lake State Resort Park also received the 3rd place award for house boating in addition to the 2nd place award listed above.  

“It is an honor to have our state parks recognized as part of this year’s Best in Kentucky awards,” said Commissioner Russ Meyer. “We’re thrilled for the recognition. From outdoor adventures to historical experiences, our parks truly have something for everybody.”
