The Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) is seeking applications from faculty of the state’s public universities and community and technical colleges for the newly created Kentucky Faculty Advisory Network.
The network is designed to engage members in state-level policy discussions and advise CPE President Aaron Thompson on matters of interest to faculty. The group will serve as a conduit of information between CPE and their representative institutions.
“I’m excited to tap into the perspectives and experiences of our faculty through this network. As a former faculty member, I anticipate rich and meaningful discussions and improved policy outcomes as a result,” said Thompson.
The network will focus on closing achievement gaps, responding to current business needs and enhancing academic quality through the 2019-20 academic year. Some of the specific innovations the group may discuss include:
- Moving from a teaching to learning paradigm;
- Promoting a shared definition of academic quality and ways to measure quality;
- Analyzing curricular complexity to facilitate student success; and
- Expanding and evaluating high impact practices.
Meetings will be held at least twice during the academic year. The network may form professional learning communities around one or more of the priority topics to further discussions between meetings.
The group will consist of 20 members from both public universities and community and technical colleges, representing a combination of full-time and part-time, tenured and non-tenured faculty from a variety of disciplines.
To qualify, faculty must be employed at a Kentucky public institution and be willing to serve a two-year term.
