Statement from CPE President Aaron Thompson on historic $15 million contribution to WKCTC

“I want to offer my highest praise and congratulations to President Anton Reece and West Kentucky Community and Technical College on yesterday’s historic announcement – and to MacKenzie Scott for her incredible generosity and commitment to including higher education in her philanthropic efforts. This $15 million gift will provide a tremendous boost to both the college and the region at a time when postsecondary credentials are more critical than ever before.

I especially want to commend Dr. Reece and WKCTC for channeling these resources toward efforts that will support low-income students and adult learners while also strengthening our workforce and advancing diversity, equity and inclusion on campus. Their vision and leadership in these areas will impact our state for generations to come.”

The Council on Postsecondary Education is leading efforts to get more Kentuckians more highly educated. By 2030, at least 60% of working-age adults in Kentucky will need to have earned a postsecondary education degree or credential to meet expected workforce demands.
