Statement from CPE President Aaron Thompson on Senate Bill 135

Thank you to Gov. Andy Beshear, Senate President Pro Tempore David Givens, Representative James Tipton, the Kentucky General Assembly and State Budget Director John Hicks for their support of Senate Bill 135. Performance funding provides important incentives to encourage colleges and universities to make progress toward achieving Kentucky’s 60x30 educational attainment goal, which calls for 60% of Kentucky’s working-age population to have a certificate or degree by the year 2030. These common-sense updates to the law will ensure that funding for higher education is distributed to campuses on a more sustainable basis moving forward.

The Council on Postsecondary Education is leading efforts to get more Kentuckians more highly educated. By 2030, at least 60% of working-age adults in Kentucky will need to have earned a postsecondary education degree or credential to meet expected workforce demands.
