Successful Transition to Postsecondary Workgroup to hold its first virtual meeting on April 16

A state workgroup focused on closing gaps and ensuring the quality of programs and advising to support student transitions will hold its first virtual meeting this week to discuss goals, identify priority areas and consider next steps.

The Successful Transition to Postsecondary Workgroup will meet at 2 p.m. ET, Friday, April 16 via livestream on the Council’s YouTube channel. The agenda is available at http://cpe.ky.gov/aboutus/cecmeetings.html.

The Commonwealth Education Continuum formed the workgroup in March as part of a major push to improve Kentucky’s education and workforce pipeline. It is one of three subgroups that will help the continuum develop policy recommendations and implement change over the next nine months.

Specifically, the workgroup will focus on determining what actions and policies are needed to better promote student transition to and retention in postsecondary, and credential and degree attainment.

CPE President Aaron Thompson and Kentucky Board of Education Chair Dr. Lu Young are co-leading the effort.

Members include:

  • Ben Brandstetter, Brandstetter Carroll Inc.
  • Stephanie Devine, Teach for America Appalachia
  • Dr. Bob Jackson, Murray State University
  • Mary Jackson, GEAR Up Kentucky
  • Shauna King-Simms, Kentucky Community and Technical College System

State education leaders have sought to include diverse perspectives in each workgroup’s membership. The other two groups will focus on early postsecondary opportunities and educator workforce and diversity.
