$10,000 Grants Available Through Kentucky Historical Society’s Newly Launched America250KY Program

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2024) – Today, the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) announced the launch of the Kentucky Sestercentennial Commission’s America250KY grant program, which offers $10,000 in funding to eligible applicants for programming to support and enhance Kentucky’s commemoration of 250 years of American history since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

“Kentucky’s rich history and culture attract people from across the world, fueling our record-breaking $13.8 billion tourism industry. This program will showcase our world-class museums, historic sites and more as we celebrate an important milestone in our nation’s history,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “Grants will support our local communities and attractions, while also inviting more people to visit our new Kentucky home.”

The America250KY grants aim to bolster the programming and sustainability of Kentucky's museums and historic sites as they prepare to celebrate this significant milestone. Eligible applicants, including museums, local history organizations, public libraries, educational institutions, applicable government agencies and 501(c)(3) not-for-profit institutions, can apply for grant funds of up to $10,000.

“This commemoration will recognize the people, places and events that have shaped our shared history over the past 250 years,” said Scott Alvey, executive director of the Kentucky Historical Society. “It will also allow us to reflect on Kentucky’s significant role in the development of the United States and the evolution of our country’s ideals of freedom, liberty and justice since 1776.”

The America250KY grant program will assist communities and historical organizations in commemorating Kentucky's vibrant history to boost tourism and economic impact throughout the state. Through educational programs, statewide events and activities, the America250KY initiative is expected to draw visitors from near and far, stimulating local economies and showcasing Kentucky's unique cultural heritage.

By participating in this commemoration, communities can expect increased visibility and engagement, helping to attract more tourists and contributing to the commonwealth's economic vitality. This initiative underscores the critical link between heritage preservation and economic growth, highlighting the value of history as a powerful driver of tourism and community pride.
