LUCAS, Ky. – The “River of Stars” astronomy program provided by the Louisville Astronomical Society (LAS) will be held Saturday, June 8, at Barren River Lake State Resort Park at Lucas.

Guests can arrive early at 1 p.m. for a chance to see solar flares and sun spots through a telescope. There will be a “Make a Shooting Star Craft” at 4 p.m. and dinner in the Driftwood Restaurant starting at 5 p.m.

Guests will learn a little more about astronomy during the “Stars on the Wall” presentation at 7 p.m. After the lecture, head to the Strathbarren Field where LAS members will have several telescopes set up for viewing our “River of Stars” night sky.  For more information contact Jamie Avery at jamie.avery@ky.gov or 1-800-325-0057.

The park is surrounded by rolling, tree-covered hills, on the edge of a beautiful 10,000-acre lake. Accommodations include 51 lodge rooms, 22 cottages, and 99 campsites at the park. Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of an upscale fish camp in the Driftwood Restaurant.  If you are looking for something to do during your visit, play the 18-hole golf course, hike along a nature trail, visit the marina to rent a boat, check out a fishing pole or sports equipment, browse the gift shop or just enjoy a peaceful seat overlooking the lake. Call 1-800-325-0057.

The resort is 44 miles southeast of Bowling Green. Take Interstate 65 to the Cumberland Parkway east, to U.S. 31E south.
