Steve Hohmann, commissioner of the Department for Natural Resources, presented a 2012 Commissioner’s Award of Excellence in Reclamation to T & T Coal, Inc. for outstanding reclamation work on its surface facility (permit no. 855-0181) located in Johnson County near the community of Green Hall.
T & T Coal, Inc. successfully established the combined post mining land uses of “hay land / pasture” and “forestland”. The company’s reclamation activity on this 111-acre surface mining operation closely followed a detailed set of mining and plans that were specifically developed for the site. The “hay land / pasture land” use was established in accordance with the landowners’ wishes, and the “forestland” was established on portions of the permit area thereby ensuring the site can support the endangered Indiana Bat.
The site was nominated by Division of Mine Reclamation and Enforcement (DMRE) London Regional Office inspection personnel, and selected because of the company’s outstanding reclamation work and its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The award was presented to T & T Coal, Inc. on January 10, 2013 at a ceremony held in London, Kentucky. Commissioner Hohmann expressed his sincere appreciation to the company for its exceptional reclamation work. “As a result of your dedicated efforts, this site is an outstanding example of the exceptional reclamation that can be achieved by today’s mining industry,” said Commissioner Hohmann.
