FRANKFORT, Ky. — Arts leaders, artists and supporters of the arts from across the state will gather Feb. 13 in Frankfort for a full day of activities to celebrate the arts and thank legislators for their support.

Arts Day in Kentucky fosters discussions among the Commonwealth’s arts leaders about the state of the arts industry in Kentucky. It is also an opportunity to celebrate Kentucky’s rich artistic heritage and acknowledge the value of and public support for the arts.

“Arts organizations across the Commonwealth provided more than 5 million arts experiences and 1 million arts education experiences to the people of Kentucky and surrounding states in the last fiscal year,” said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. “For the leaders of these organizations to come together and discuss how they can strengthen their outreach capacity and effectiveness is a tremendous benefit to the people of Kentucky.”

Kentucky Arts Partnership (KAP) organizations’ representatives have photos taken with their legislators and meet with state and regional counterparts to discuss topics relative to the arts. KAP organizations are recipients of operating support grants from the arts council. In fiscal year 2012, the arts council awarded approximately $1.5 million collectively to 100 arts partnership organizations.

Recent Arts Day meetings have included discussions about the importance of arts education, the economic impact of the arts and the public value of the arts in Kentucky.

The day ends with a reception for arts organizations, artists, supporters and legislators. Honored at the reception are recipients of the 2012 Governor’s Awards in the Arts and Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowships. All events are free.
