Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes
Today, Kentucky Secretary of
State Alison Lundergan Grimes joined visitors at the Kentucky State Fair in
honoring Kentucky active-duty and veteran military members on Military Monday.
She met with numerous active-duty and retired military service members and
thanked them for their service to our country and Kentucky.
“I always enjoy visiting the
Kentucky State Fair which brings together Kentuckians from across the
Commonwealth and showcases the true spirit of our wonderful state,” said
Grimes. Grimes distributed “Vote in
Honor of a Veteran” buttons, a program sponsored by her office, to fairgoers who
visited the booth, including many military members and their families.
“It was an honor to meet so many
service members and their families today,” said Grimes. “On behalf of all
Kentuckians, I expressed our thanks and gratitude for their sacrifices to
protect our many freedoms.”
Grimes is passionate about
supporting Kentucky’s 65,000 active-duty and 350,000 veteran military members
and their families. Grimes made several recommendations to improve Kentucky’s
military voting procedures following a recent mission to the Middle East. Her
recommendations were passed into law, allowing military and overseas citizens
to register to vote and update their registration online, ensuring that
military and overseas voters have sufficient time to vote in special elections
and extending existing protections to state and local elections.
