Today, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes presented a $400 cash prize to Tiarra Adkins, a sixth-grade student at Oldham Academy South in Jefferson County, for winning third place in Grimes’ office’s annual slogan contest. The slogan contest was created in 1988 to inspire students to be active and informed citizens, with particular emphasis on election-related issues.

Adkins’ slogan, “Voting is showing you care! [Clap twice.]” placed third in an online poll.  Grimes presented Adkins’ award at an assembly at Olmsted Academy South, which is the first all-girls public school in the state.

“Kentucky is at its best when everyone’s voice is heard,” said Grimes. “It’s great to have students like Tiarra and her classmates encouraging people to participate in the process.”
