FRANKFORT, Ky. – (Feb. 25, 2013) – The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) will take part in a “Kentucky Saves Week” celebration at the state capitol Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. The general public and the media are invited to attend.

WHAT:  Kentucky Saves Week Celebration. Students from across the state will receive recognition for their participation in the Kentucky Jump$tart Coalition poster contest and UK Cooperative Extension Service piggy bank contest. Winners are on display in the capitol.

WHEN:  Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m.

WHERE:  Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort

   Gov. Steve Beshear has issued a proclamation declaring the week of Feb. 24 through March 2, 2013, Kentucky Saves Week. The Kentucky Saves campaign is part of the nationwide America Saves effort that focuses on making household savings a priority and helping individuals work toward financial stability. The Kentucky Saves effort promotes positive saving habits to help Kentuckians work toward financial stability. To enroll as a Kentucky Saver, take the personal pledge at www.kentuckysaves.org.

   This year, DFI also is supporting Kentucky Saves Week by encouraging teachers to talk with their students about the importance of saving money. Throughout the year, DFI offers speakers on request to classrooms and community groups on saving, investing and other financial topics. On Thursday and Friday, DFI speakers will present at Buckhorn High School in Hazard and John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.
