Contract awarded to continue widening project in Kenton County
$24 million project will tackle third and final step in construction
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 7, 2012) – A contract to continue a project to widen Taylor Mill Road (KY 16) in Kenton County has been awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The $24 million project will widen the section of KY 16 from Sunbrite Drive to Blackstone Court and will replace a bridge along that portion.
This is the last of three sections being reconstructed to form a new, 4.2-mile roadway. The improved corridor will have two lanes in each direction with center turn lanes at intersections. A raised grass median will also complement this roadway to provide for safety and aesthetics. It also will have curbs, gutters and 7-foot-wide sidewalks.
The most recent section of the roadway to be started was the northern section, extending from Blackstone Court on Old Taylor Mill Road to Interstate 275. That $7.8 million project began in the spring.
Prior to that, a construction project on the southern section that began in spring 2011 widened the roadway from near Klette Road (KY 2047) to Sunbrite Drive. The alignments and safety of the intersections of Senour Road and Hands Pike were also improved. This 1.2-mile, $9.2 million section, is on schedule to be completed in the spring of 2013.
Haydon Bridge Co. was awarded the most recent contract for its low bid of $24,266,372. The project has a 280-working-day schedule.
