On Saturday, Dec. 28, Suzy Hatcher, of Louisville, will demonstrate her hand-building techniques with clay from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

In her home studio, Hatcher creates porcelain functional pottery on the wheel and more sculptural works with stoneware clay using hand-building techniques. She fires her work in both electric and gas kilns, adding soda to maintain bright, clear and subtle colors in her glazes. She creates works that are simple, yet gestural in nature and uses stamps and texture on her hand-built pieces to catch small pools of glaze depth and richness.
