On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided tours through the center’s gallery exhibit, “Capturing the Art of Sport: Works by Kentucky Artisans,” and the center’s lobby display featuring an 18-foot Christmas tree decorated with sports-themed ornaments and gifts.
“Capturing the Art of Sport: Works by Kentucky Artisans,” features works by 25 artists and includes wood carvings, photographs, paintings, textile works, baskets, prints, mixed media works and sculpture. A wide variety of sports are captured by these artists, including fishing, boating, soccer, golf, baseball, horse racing, cycling, archery, basketball and boxing.

In the center’s lobby, the 18-foot Christmas tree ties in with the center’s sports exhibit by showcasing sports-themed ornaments and gifts including works by: Michael Shambro; Chad Balster; Michelle Weston; Pidney Davidson; Steve Ramsey; Charlene Claycomb of Remembrance Porcelain; Ken Swinson and Lonnie and Twyla Money.
These free, guided exhibit tours will be led by Kentucky Artisan Center staff, who will talk about the exhibit, the artists and individual works. Staff will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used in the objects featured. This tour will be given at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.
In addition, on Dec. 14, Peggy Sherry, of Somerset, will demonstrate her “oil painting in motion” technique from10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the center.
The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea, Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Celebrating 10 years in 2013, the center currently features works by more than 700 artisans from more than 100 counties across the Commonwealth.
